This is a simple, budget-friendly hitop that's easy to drive and economical. It works well for backpackers, solo travellers or couples on a budget exploring Tasmania.

The optional camp table and chairs are worth getting — they create an indoor-outdoor setup that makes the van feel much bigger once you settle into camp. After five days it stays comfortable for two people, though three will definitely notice the tighter storage and living space.

The trade-off is straightforward: you give up modern camper features in exchange for a practical, budget-friendly option. There are more suitable choices for first-time hirers, but this vehicle is adequate enough to get the job done while helping with your budget.

Do a thorough walkthrough before leaving the depot and ask Tasmania Campers' staff about your route if you're unsure about any roads or locations. In Tasmania, avoid driving at dawn, dusk, or overnight — there are many small animals and roadkill is common. You don't want the extra stress of damaging the vehicle while on hire.
