A full unrestricted driving license in English held for 12 consecutive months. Non-English driving licenses must be supported by an International Driving Permit (IDP) or certified English translation. Renters from China can use a China Notarial Certificate in place of an IDP along with their Chinese license.

Hertz offer a Toll Day Pass for each state. Essentially a fixed daily fee covering any road toll incurred. This is likely the preferred option. The alternative is for Hertz to bill you for each road toll. Hertz do charge an AU$38.50 administration fee for this billing service.
Renters are liable for all traffic infringements whilst in possession of their Hertz rental. Hertz charge an Infringement Admin fee of AU$55 in managing any such notices.
Hertz operate grace periods for late returns. Up to 1 hour after the scheduled return time is free, 1 up to 2 hours is 50% standard daily charge for the vehicle and 2+ hours is charged a full day's standard rental.
