Julie's take

Camperman is a good option if you're after something affordable and practical rather than a brand-new, luxury camper. They run a solid range of compact campervans, all with all-inclusive rates — unlimited kilometres, comprehensive insurance with a $500 excess, and road tolls included. That pricing structure is the best thing they do. You know your cost upfront, and you're not stung by extras later.

The trade-off is the vehicles themselves. They're older and can be compact, so check the layout and storage work for you, especially on longer trips. These are well-loved vans with some wear and tear, but Camperman keeps them maintained throughout their time on the fleet. It's honest value rather than pristine presentation — you're trading modern features for a lower price and a practical setup.

Pickup is straightforward. The team walks you through the vehicle and shows you how everything works before you head off. Give yourself a bit of extra time for the handover so you're not rushed and can ask questions before you start driving.

If something goes wrong on the road, Camperman offers roadside assistance from 8am to 9pm, every day of the week.

Camperman suits budget-conscious travellers who don't mind a simpler, older-style campervan in exchange for real value for money. If you're more focused on getting out and exploring than having the latest features, this is your fit.

For the vehicle, start with the Maxie 4 Deluxe Shower/Toilet. It's a spacious, self-contained campervan that works well for families or groups of four, with proper mini motorhome facilities — including a private internal bathroom with hot water — without being hard to drive. The hot shower and toilet make a real difference on longer trips and open up remote overnight stays. For couples doing an extended trip, it's usually much cheaper than other 4-berth options with bathroom facilities, and you'll have plenty of room to spread out.

One more thing worth knowing: drivers from 18 with a green P plate can drive any Camperman vehicle, as long as they display the correct plates and follow normal road rules. No additional fees for it.
