Julie's take

Awesome Campers keeps things simple. They're a family-owned Australian business with around 20 years in the game, and their whole focus is easy-to-drive, practical campers at a good price. No frills, no overcomplicating things — just a van that's fully equipped for cooking and sleeping so you can jump in and drive off.

What they do better than most: every van comes ready for the road. You get everything you need for cooking and sleeping sorted, which makes this a genuinely simple option if you don't want to think too hard about your setup.

Here's what to know before you book. These vans are built to be practical, not luxurious. They're compact and easy to drive around, but space and storage are limited — especially on longer trips. Pack light, and check the layout suits your needs before you commit.

Pickup is straightforward. The team walks you through the vehicle and shows you how everything works before you head off. Give yourself a bit of extra time for the handover so you're not rushed and can ask questions before you start driving.

If something goes wrong on the road, Awesome Campers have RACQ membership, so you've got roadside assistance backing you up. That cover runs 9am to 7pm, every day.

Best fit: younger travellers and solo travellers who care more about the experience than the extras. Inside you get a bed, bedding, and a basic kitchenette — not luxury, but honest and practical, which is often all you need.

Van to look at first: the Coast Hopper, their newest addition. The outdoor space is where it shines — roll out the awning for instant shade, and use the external shower for an easy beach rinse-off after a swim.
