The Avis Australian rental fleet includes cars, passenger vans, commercial vans and utes, buses and truck hire.
The Car Fleet offers both manual and automatic transmission, although the majority of Avis rental vehicles in Australia are automatic as is the case with most Australian rental providers. The fleet includes Economy and Compact cars such as the Kia Rio, Full size vehicles such as the Toyota Camry and its hybrid eco-friendly variant, SUVs in the form of the Mitsubishi ASX, Outlander and Toyota’s Kluger. The Kia Carnival fills the full size Passenger vans or People Movers space. Avis also have a top of the range Signature fleet of luxury vehicles available for hire such as the BMW X5, X3 and a wide selection of Mercedes cars.
Whilst every effort is made by Avis to match your booking request against the vehicle of your choice, Avis does not guarantee a specific make or model and actual vehicles offered in each Avis Car Rental Class may differ by location.
The Avis Bus Fleet provides 12 seater passenger vans such as the Toyota Commuter, which can be driven on a regular full car license, and for larger groups of up to 25 the Mitsubishi Rosa which requires a Light Rigid (LR) license.

How old do I need to be to hire an Avis car in Australia?
26. Some Avis locations offer rentals to 21-25 year old's with a young driver surcharge and restrictions on vehicle choice. For further information and assistance contact the DriveNow Reservations team.
What type of Driving License does Avis Australia accept?
A full unrestricted driving license held for 12 consecutive months and written in Roman character set. Any driving license written in non Latin/Roman characters must be accompanied by an International Driving Permit in English.
Will the rate change once I have made my booking?
The rental rate on your Avis booking is locked in with your booking confirmation. However if you later amend the booking to change the vehicle, dates or drop off location then the rate may change.
Do I need to use a credit card to pay for my Avis rental?
Credit Cards are the most commonly used and effective way to pay for your Avis Rental. Avis accepts American Express, Diners Club, Mastercard and Visa. The card needs to be in the name of the hirer.
Does Avis accept Debit cards?
Avis accept some Visa and Mastercard branded financial institution Debit cards for payment. Funds to cover the full rental plus a security hold ($200 for cars & $400 for commercial vehicles) must be available on the card and will not be accessible until billing is completed at drop-off.
Can I use someone else's credit or debit card to pay for my Avis rental?
No. The card used must be in the name of the hirer.
Can more than one person drive the rented vehicle?
Yes, you can nominate other drivers at pick-up, they must be present and show their driving licenses. Additional drivers under the age of 25 will incur a surcharge. In the event of an accident with an unnamed driver all insurance cover is invalidated.
If I have rental insurance with a third party do I still need to pay the excess to Avis in the event of an accident or damage?
Yes. Avis will charge the excess amount to your credit card. You can then claim back from your insurer those excess charges.
