Our suppliers impose restrictions on where their vehicles (including 4 wheel drives) may be used in Australia. Below are extracts from the Conditions of Use from each supplier's Terms and Conditions. WHERE YOU CAN AND CANNOT DRIVE THE VEHICLE
3.1 You and any Authorised Driver must only use the Vehicle on a road which is properly formed and constructed as a sealed, metalled or gravel road.
3.2 You and any Authorised Driver must not, unless authorised in writing by Avis, drive or take the Vehicle:
3.2(a) to Kangaroo Island, Bruny Island or Fraser Island;
3.2(b) into or out of the Northern Territory, Tasmania or to any points in Western Australia north of Carnarvon, Magnetic Island, Groote Eylandt, Gove Peninsula and Tiwi Islands;
3.2(c) in Queensland:
3.2(c)(1) Highway No.27: Beyond Chillagoe in a Westerly direction;
3.2(c)(2) Highway No.1: Beyond Normanton in a Southerly direction and no further North than Karumba;
3.2(c)(3) If the Vehicle is a Passenger vehicle or truck, beyond Cooktown to the North or Lakeland to the West and no further North than Cape Tribulation on the coast road;
3.2(c)(4) On the coast Road from Helenvale to Cape Tribulation, or from Laura to Lakeland, unless the vehicle is a Group W, 4WD;
3.2(d) above the snow line in Tasmania, New South Wales and Victoria (being Jindabyne in New South Wales and Bright in Victoria) from the beginning of June until the end of September; or
3.2(e) on beaches or through streams, dams, rivers or flood waters.

3.2 You and any Authorised Driver must not, unless authorised in writing by Budget, drive or take the Vehicle:
3.2(a) to Kangaroo Island, Fraser Island, Stradbroke Islands or Moreton Island;
3.2(b) into or out of the Northern Territory, Tasmania or to any points in Western Australia north of Carnarvon, Magnetic Island, Groote Eylandt, Gove Peninsula & Tiwi Islands;
3.2(c) in Queensland:
3.2(c)(1) Highway No.27: Beyond Chillagoe in a Westerly direction;

AUSTRALIA
3.1 Subject to clause 3.3 you must only use the vehicle on a surface which is sealed.
3.2 Subject to clause 3.3 you may use the Vehicle on a gazetted road, if it is a 4WD (IFDR/FFAR/PFAR).
3.3 The following roads are only allowed to be driven in an FFAR and PFAR. This is subject to road conditions at time of rental.
3.3 a) The Cadabia – Ningaloo Road
3.3 b) Jim Jim Falls Road
It is compulsory to hire a second spare wheel for travel on these roads:
Second spare wheel is $15 per day incl GST. Capped at 14 days $210
3.3 c) on the Gibb River Road.
3.3 d) on the Cape Leveque Road and to Windjana Gorge
3.3 e) on the Larapinta and Namitjira Drives, commonly known as the “Mereenie Loop”
3.3 f) Bungle Bungles
3.4 UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL ANY VEHICLE BE ALLOWED ON THE FOLLOWING ROADS
3.4(a) Fraser Island
3.4(b) on the road from Jim Jim Falls to Twin Falls
3.4(c) beyond Chillagoe or Georgetown in a westerly direction
3.4(d) beyond Cooktown or Laura in a northerly direction

3.4(f) north of Maggieville
3.4(g) on unsealed roads north and west of Mt Isa
3.4(h) on the Bloomfield track
3.4(i) on the Savannah Way
3.4(j) on the Tanamai Track
3.4(k) The Simpson Desert
3.4(l) on the Gunbarrel Highway
3.4(m) Cape York
3.4(q) on the Strzelecki Track
3.4(r) On the Oodnadatta Track,
3.4(s) On the Warburton Route, Tanami Track
3.4(t) On the Kalumbru Road, Cape Leveque
3.4(u) On the Canning Stock Route
3.4(v) On Tracks to Lost City (Litchfield NP)
3.4(w) Lennard River Gorge Road
3.4(x) above the snow line from 1 June until 30 October each year (unless snow coverage is purchased at the commencement of the Rental period)
And in no circumstances
3.4(i) on beaches or through streams, dams, rivers, or flood waters
3.4(ii) on flood prone roads or any roadway where the Police or any other Government authority have issued a warning or caution.
3.4(iii) no vehicles are permitted on Fraser Island.

Where you can/ cannot drive the vehicle
Please check with rental location for all local driving restrictions. Cars may not be placed on any trains.

Victoria / Tasmania
Cars cannot be driven into or out of Tasmania.

Tasmania
The following roads are prohibited from use:
(a) On the West Coast, further south than the Arthur River township
(b) Inland any further south than where the Kanunnah Bridge crosses the Arthur River
(c) The back roads between Oxford and Copping on the Southeast coast
(d) The Ben Lomond Road above the bottom of Jacob's Ladder
(e) The unsealed roads connecting Smithton and Zheehan

Queensland
Fraser Island- Is deemed a full responsibility destination. Fraser Island is only accessible by 4wd.

Northern Qld - Cars
Vehicles can travel around the Atherton Tableland area. Vehicles can cross the Daintree River and travel as far as Cape Tribulation, however cars must stay on the sealed section of these roads.
Vehicles cannot travel to - Chillago
Group V 4wd (Economy)
* - Can be driven as far North as Cooktown.
* - Can be driven as far West as Normanton.
* - Can be driven anywhere South.
Group R 4wd (Full Size) - Travel is restricted to gazetted roads and tracks Australia wide.

Mt Isa
Due to extremely bad road conditions in the Mount Isa region, standard cars are not allowed to travel on unsealed roads.
Standard cars can access 2 mine sites in Mt Isa - Cannington and Earnest Henry. All other mining sites must be accessed by 4wd only.
4wd vehicles are also available for tourist sites which are off sealed roads.

Northern Territory
Certain areas in the Northern Territory are accessible only by 4wd vehicles ie. Palm valley.
Hertz Northern Territory do not allow 4wd vehicles to be taken into - Jim Jim or Twin falls under any circumstances.
Exceptions:
Kings canyon - accessible by car (2wd) using the Lasseter, Luritja highways. All other access to Kings Canyon requires 4wd.
The Meerenie Loop road & the Ernest Giless Hwy are 4wd only.
Litchfield park - there is bitumen access via Batchelor to Litchfield park as far as the main site of Wangi Falls. Customers can visit Litchfield Park using the Batchelor Access in and out. They cannot travel on dirt roads in the Park, however, majority of main sites are now bitumen.
Drivers are responsible for all damage by animals whilst driving at night

Western Australia
Driving restrictions for Kununurra and Broome:
Grps B, C, D, E and V are available for travel within city limits and to travel on the Great Northern Highway
Group R
- Four Wheel Drive Access Only
- The Gibb River Road
- The Tunnel Creek Road
- The Windjana Gorge Road
- The Bungle Bungles
- Cape Leveque Road

South Australia
Kangaroo Island
Vehicles cannot be taken on the ferry to Kangaroo Island
Vehicles rented from Kangaroo Island cannot be driven off the Island
Collision damage waiver (CDW) is included on all rentals subject to an accident damages excess (ADE).
No vehicles are to be driven onto beaches, bush tracks or paddocks fields.
An additional single vehicle accident (SVA) excess applies when rented from Kangaroo Island.

Use of the vehicle
* recklessly, or with deliberate intent to cause injury, loss or damage;
* in Tasmania, unless rented from a location in Tasmania;
* for committing an illegal or unlawful act;
* for racing or undertaking reliability trials or other contests;
* for conveying passengers for hire or reward (unless Hertz consents in writing);
* for hauling any goods that are incorrectly or inappropriately loaded or for the haulage of which the Vehicle was not designed (including any hazardous materials, such as any gases or substances which may form explosive mixtures); or
* for towing a trailer or any other vehicle, unless the Vehicle has a tow-bar, you have permission from Hertz, and the weight and dimensions of the item being towed do not exceed the specified capacity of the Vehicle.
You will be fully responsible and liable for Damages where the Vehicle is used:
* on any road or other surface which is not sealed other than a road under repair, a short access road to a National or State Park, tourist attraction or holiday accommodation or a road notified to you by Hertz, unless the Vehicle is a four wheel drive; (see Driving Restrictions)
* in any Alpine Resort during the gazetted snow season or in any other area under conditions where a reasonable person would use snow chains, unless SNO is offered to and accepted by you as noted on the Form; (see Alpine Driving)
* on any beach or in any other area exposed to saltwater;
* in any area or under any circumstances (including crossing a waterway) where the Vehicle may or does become partially or totally immersed in water;
* under any circumstances where the Vehicle may or does sustain damage to the body or undercarriage as a result of making contact with a stationary object overhanging or on the road surface (including driving or attempting to drive under, over or around any such object);
* in any other area or region specified to you by Hertz as an area or region in which the Vehicle must not be used.

3. USE OF VEHICLE
2. You agree that the Vehicle must not be used by You or by any Authorised Driver (unless authorised by Us in writing):
2.1. if the Place of Hire is in NSW, QLD, VIC or SA the Vehicle must not be used in WA, NT or TAS;
2.2. if the Place of Hire is in WA, NT or TAS the Vehicle must not be used out of the state or territory of hire.
2.3. (except where Snowpak coverage is purchased) above the snow line being either the entrance to national parks in which snow falls or areas in which snow chains are required to be fitted (by the relevant authority);
2.4. on any unsealed road (being a road not sealed with a hard material such as tar, bitumen or concrete) unless the Vehicle is a 4WD in which case it may also be used on graded unsealed roads. No Vehicle (including 4WDs) may be used on off road conditions. Off road conditions include but are not limited to fire trails, beaches, sand, tracks, fields or paddocks;
2.5. to carry persons for hire or reward, to carry any inflammable, explosive or corrosive materials or to carry any animal or pet;
2.6. to propel or tow any vehicle (not being a trailer), or to propel or tow any trailer with a load in excess of the capacity of the trailer, towing mechanism or Vehicle;
2.7. to carry any greater load, number or persons or for use in a manner or for a purpose for which the Vehicle was not designed and constructed, or to carry any greater number of persons than the Vehicle has seat belts (particularly as seat belts must be worn by all occupants of the Vehicle);
2.8. for racing, pacemaking, reliability trials or hill climbing, or being tested in preparation for those purposes;
2.9. in contravention of any criminal legislation, any legislation involving a penalty, or for any illegal purpose whatsoever;
2.10. in contravention specifically of any road safety laws in force from time to time where the Vehicle is being driven; or
2.11. if We have directed You or any Authorised Driver not to drive the Vehicle or if the Vehicle is damaged or unsafe
