ONE of the most common questions that we are asked concerns unlimited kilometre Car hire and whether rental companies apply charges charge based on distances travelled or cap the number of free kilometres.
The good news is that this practice is no longer as widespread as in previous years. Renting a car in most popular Australian locations will include free unlimited kilometres. Of course, as with most things, there are always exceptions, varying by supplier and location.
The branches where Rental Companies apply per kilometre charges tend to be in less popular or more remote locations although this varies depending upon the rental provider. The rental agreements in these locations will likely stipulate a daily free travel allowance, generally ranging from 100-200kms (again dependant upon supplier and locale) after which a fee is levied for each additional kilometre travel. These charges must be paid when you drop off the vehicle. There is no refund where travel undertaken is less than the free daily allowance.
For Example:
As the branches where rental companies charge per kilometre fees can vary between suppliers and is subject to change we have not published a complete list of locations on this page, however it does include the following:
DriveNow always ensures that you are fully aware of all charges and lists any additional costs such as per kilometre tariffs before you make your booking. We strive to provide drive-away pricing (with standard excess based insurance) and where there are additional costs associated with a particular location or vehicle these are highlighted. This ensures you can book with confidence knowing that there are no hidden unexpected charges to come.
Tip: Double check the Odometer reading when you pick up your vehicle against the reading recorded in your rental agreement in case it has been written down incorrectly.
