Picking Up Your Car

Checking Your Rental Car: A Quick Guide

When you pick up your rental car, you’ll receive a Vehicle Condition Report that lists any existing damage. To ensure everything is accurate, take a moment to compare the report with what you see on the car. If you spot any unlisted damage, just let the rental representative know so they can update the report. Many customers also find it helpful to snap a few photos of the car before leaving, just as an extra precaution.

When You Pick Up the Car:

  • Check the wheel alloys for scratches, as these are quite common.
  • Inspect the windscreen and windows for any noticeable chips or cracks.
  • Look at the car from different angles to spot any dents that might not be immediately visible.
  • Small marks like tiny chips and light scratches are usually considered normal wear and tear, so you won’t be charged for them.

If the car is damaged or stolen while you have it—or if new damage is found when you return it—you’ll be responsible for the cost, even if it wasn’t your fault. Also, please remember that taking the car to restricted areas or using it outside the rental agreement’s terms can void any insurance coverage, meaning you’d be responsible for the full excess amount.

When You Return the Car:

A rental company representative will check the car for any new damage. If they find anything, they’ll provide you with an updated Vehicle Condition Report and an estimate of repair costs. If the final repair cost is lower than the estimate, you’ll be refunded the difference. For significant damage, a third-party assessment may be required.

If you’re not there for the inspection, the rental company will notify you about any new damage with supporting photos. In this case, your credit card will be charged for the necessary repairs.

By taking these simple steps, you’ll have a smooth rental experience with no surprises! Safe travels!
