Making Payment

Managing Your Booking

Most bookings are paid at the branch when you collect the car. Check which cards the rental company accepts before you book.

Most car hire bookings on DriveNow use a "Pay on collection" rate. You pay the rental cost, and any insurance or extras you take from the rental company, at the branch when you collect the car.

Insurance

If you choose excess insurance through Prosura on the booking page, you pay for it when you book. The booking page asks for your card details before it confirms the booking.

If you would rather take the rental company's own cover, you choose it and pay for it at the branch. Our guide to insurance and excess reduction compares the options.

Currency

You pay the rental company directly, so the charge is in the local currency of the pick-up location. If you are travelling overseas, check that your card allows international transactions, and check your bank's international transaction fees and exchange rates.

Prosura insurance bought on the booking page is charged in Australian dollars.

Which cards are accepted?

Card requirements differ between rental companies and locations. On the booking page, select "Important information" to see the terms and conditions for your car. The card rules are under "Credit Card Policies" and "Debit Card Policies". Card surcharges for payments at pick-up are listed in the same place.

Not all rental companies or locations accept debit cards, and some limit which credit cards you can use. Check this before you confirm your booking, so you know you have an accepted card.

Cards are generally only accepted in the name of the driver on the booking, with matching ID or passport.
