Returning the car with fuel
Most rental companies require you to return the car with a full tank, unless you pre-purchased fuel at pick-up or your agreement says otherwise. If you don't, the rental company will refuel it and charge you, usually more than a service station would. See unexpected additional charges.
If you are returning the car to the branch you collected it from, ask the staff at pick-up where the nearest service station is. Refuel close to the branch and keep the receipt.

Fuel prices depend on the value of the Australian dollar, crude oil prices, competition and price cycles. Prices are generally higher the further you are from major centres and during busy travel periods such as school holidays.
