Inclusions/Exclusions & Optional Extras

GPS

When making your car rental booking online you may come across the option to add a GPS to your reservation.  Once you have selected a vehicle, you will arrive at the vehicle details page and this is where you can request a GPS.  If a GPS is not an option, it may be due to availability has sold out, or they are not offered from that location with your selected.  Also when travelling on a one way itinerary and not returning to your starting location, a GPS may not be an option to select.

If you believe you are choosing a particular model as it has a in-built GPS system, keep in mind each vehicle is displayed as ‘or similar’. When making your reservation, you are booking a vehicle category and not a specific model. Within each category, the rental car company may use up to 5 different models for that category.

Additional Drivers

If you wish to add an additional driver to your reservation, this can only be done at the counter when you are collecting your vehicle.  In order for the additional driver to be added to your rental agreement, the additional driver must be present at the time of collection and provide a full drivers licence without any restrictions.

Child Seats

As you are creating your reservation online and after you have selected a vehicle suitable for the family, you will have the option of adding a child seat.  On the vehicle details page look for the Child Seats & Equipment area and choose and request a child seat which is suitable for the child travelling.

Your child seat options may be a Booster Seat, Forward Facing Child Seat or a Rear Facing Child Seat.

  • Children aged between 7 to 16 years – Booster Seat is required to use a booster seat or adult seat belt when travelling in a vehicle.
  • Children aged between 4 to 7 years - Children must travel in a forward facing child seat restraint or a booster seat.
  • Children aged between 6 months to 4 years - Children should travel in a rear facing child seat or a forward facing child seat with an inbuilt harness.
  • Children under 6 months – Children must travel in a rear facing child seat with an inbuilt harness. Baby capsules are not available to hire from car rental companies.,

Tips for choosing and using a child seat

Booster Seats

Booster seats are held in place by the child's own body and the vehicle's lap-sash seat belt.

  • Only use a lap-sash seat belt with a booster seat.
  • Check that the sash of the seat belt crosses your child's shoulder and does not touch their neck.
  • If your seat has a top tether strap, it must be used.
  • Choose a booster seat with an expandable headrest. This feature lets you adjust the height of the booster seat as your child grows.
  • Choose a booster seat with an anti-submarining feature. This holds the lap part of the seat belt low on a child's hips to stop them from sliding under the seat belt in a crash.
Expert Tip

Safety tip – keep your child in a booster seat or forward facing child restraint until they can pass the five step test. This usually happens when they are around 145cm tall.

Forward Facing Child seats

When putting the inbuilt harness on your child, your child’s shoulders should be below the shoulder height markers. If your child's shoulders reach the harness slot, move the straps to a higher slot.

You should move your child to a larger forward facing child car seat or a booster seat if their shoulders:

  • are above the highest slot for the harness
  • have reached the shoulder height marker available on some restraints.

Rear Facing Child Seats

It is recommended you keep your child in a rear facing child car seat until they have outgrown their rear-facing child car seat, ideally until they are at least twelve months old.

You should move your child to a forward facing child car seat if they have reached the upper limit of the shoulder height marker, or their shoulders are above the highest harness slot.
