Utility Failures

During Your Trip

When things within the van break, go wrong or stop working , what do you do next?. Read on to find out more

Non-Mechanical Utility Failures

One of the problems with having a house on wheels is that some of the utilities aren’t made to be in a moving vehicle. Minor utility failures and other non-mechanical failures can happen during your hire and it’s important to know what to do.

Common issues

  • Faulty/disconnected power supply
  • Faulty power monitor
  • Toilet Cassette removal issues
  • Leaking water tanks
  • Water drainage
  • Stove or heater pilot light issues

What to do

For any utility issues experienced on hire, we recommend contacting the on-road care team of your vehicle provider straight away. Their number is usually on a keychain attached to the vehicle keys or will be in the rental documents provided at pick up. The on-road care teams are experts in how to operate and fix their vehicles and are there to assist you with solving any utility failures or directing you on the proper use of the vehicle if you are unfamiliar with how to use any of the utilities.

Minor repairs

Some utility failures will be easily fixed by you. To help avoid disruptions to your trip, most of our vehicle providers have small allowances for minor repairs without authorization from the on-road care team. These get reimbursed at the time of return after providing a receipt. Always check your signed rental agreement to check if this applies to your rental. If in doubt, contact the on-road care team for advice.

Expert Tip

Fixing some utility failures like the fridge not being powered can be as simple as adjusting the settings on the 12v control panel. Instructions are provided at pick up or via video tutorials available online from the rental provider.
