Travelling with Pets

It's great to take your pets to share the enjoyment with them, but there are some rules and tips to keeping them safe and secure while you travel and before you return the vehicle at the end of your adventure.

Can l Travel with my Family Pet?

If you hire a campervan from brands Apollo, Britz, Cheapa Campa, Hippie Campers, Jucy Campers, Mighty and Star RV you are welcome to travel with your beloved furry friend, comfort pet or service animal.

When picking up or dropping off your campervan, make sure your pet is secure on a lead and supervised by an adult outside the branch building at all times.

Before You Decide to Travel

  • Consider whether your pet is trained and ready for a campervan adventure road trip and whether they get travel or motion sickness.
  • Talk to your vet and make sure your pet is healthy and can travel.
  • Make sure their yearly vaccinations and parasite preventions are up to date.
  • Make sure your pet has a collar and tag with your phone number on it.
  • Make sure you have a vehicle that is suitable for your pet. A cabin with air-conditioning or heating is recommended if you are travelling in a hot or humid climate or a cold one respectively.

On the Day of Vehicle Collection

We suggest you check-in online prior to the day of your pick-up. This will save you time at the branch when you pick up your campervan.

When picking up or dropping off your campervan, make sure your pet is on a secure lead and is at all times supervised by an adult outside the branch building.

Make sure your pet is clean and dry before entering the campervan.

What Do l Need to Consider when Travelling with our Family Pet?

Is the holiday park you are staying at ‘pet-friendly’?

Use Pet-Friendly to research campgrounds to park at for the night.

When parking, look for an area out of the Sun to keep the vehicle, and you and your pet, cool.

  • Under each State and Territory law in Australian, animals must be safely restrained while travelling inside a vehicle. Passengers and drivers are prohibited from carrying pets on their lap while travelling in a vehicle.
  • Many National Parks are not pet-friendly. Your pet must be on a lead when walking in national parks, in natural environments or in wildlife areas where native animals are found.

Where Should You Leave a Pet when You Have Non-Pet Friendly Activities Planned?

If you are going to a sightseeing location which does not allow pets, rather than leaving them tied-up in the campervan, you may consider putting them in a kennel for the day. Alternatively, a local vet may offer short-term boarding. All kennels will require their vaccinations (including for Kennel Cough) to be up to date. What to Pack or your Pet
