Each campervan rental provider has their own rules regarding driver licence requirements, but there are some general points to keep in mind.
All drivers are required to hold a current, fully valid driver’s licence, without any restrictions. Your valid licence card with photo must be presented at time of collection of the vehicle along with the licences of any additional drivers. You do not require a heavy vehicle licence even for the larger vehicles, just a normal car licence is fine. The licence must have been held for a period of 1-2 years prior to your pick-up day depending on the suppliers Terms and Conditions. Some campervan providers will allow as young as 18 years of age with a full licence and with no restrictions for particular models but generally the minimum is 21 years of age. Different liability levels may apply to drivers under 25 years of age.
None of our campervan providers will accept Learners Licence.
Unless you are from a native English-speaking country e.g. Australia, UK, USA… you will require an international driving licence. We advise you to organise this prior to arrival in Australia however you can also find services to get your driving license translated directly in Australia prior to picking up your campervan. You will need your original licence and the translation and/or international permit.
Start your search for a campervan or visit our dedicated campervan home page.
