Surrounded by a beautiful harbour and amazing beaches, Sydney and many parts of New South Wales are great locations for your summer holiday - this makes December to March a great time to travel around New South Wales.
From December to March, average temperatures in Sydney will range from highs of 25° to 26° and lows of 18° to 19°. However, hitting temperatures in the high 30’s is a regular event over the summer in parts of NSW.
Spending New Year's Eve on the banks of Sydney Harbour watching the fireworks is a popular and exciting way to see in the New Year. Visit the Sydney Opera House, climb the Sydney Harbour Bridge, explore Taronga Zoo or stay for the Mardi Gras. There is plenty to see and do in Sydney.
From Bondi down south to Merimbula and up to Byron Bay, New South Wales has some of the world's best beaches. You can also head west to the Blue Mountains, south to the Snowy Mountains or explore the Hunter Region in the north. There are endless options in New South Wales.
The best time to tour Darwin and the tropical northern parts of the NT are during the dry season months of June, July and August. During the months of May through to September, on average Darwin only has 1 or 2 rainy days per month. During June to August average temperatures in Darwin will range between highs of 31°-32° and lows of 19° to 20°.
Darwin comes alive during August with the Darwin Cup Carnival and the Darwin Festival. The Northern Territory’s biggest social and sporting event, the Darwin Cup Carnival has numbers of over 40,000 racegoers during their 2-day carnival. The Darwin Festival has a wide range of performances, including musicians from all over the world, comedians, theatre performances, cabaret acts. Along with amazing local food there is also a deckchair cinema, rodeo, Beer Can Regatta and much more. Mindil Beach Sunset Market on Thursday and Sunday afternoons into the evening, feature local and international cuisine, arts, crafts and entertainment.
During the dry season, driving to Kakadu National Park or Litchfield National Park is an easy drive and will take you under 2 hours in your campervan. We suggest you stay at least 2 or 3 days at Litchfield National Park and 5 to 7 days at Kakadu to take in the full experience of this magical land.
Once you have experienced Darwin and the Top End, if you are heading south along the Stuart Highway, the journey from Darwin to Alice Springs is 1,500 kilometres or approximately 16 hours driving time in your campervan. We recommend you plan for at least a 3-day road trip so you can travel safely at your leisure while enjoying the journey.
From Alice Springs to Uluru (Ayres Rock) it is a 5-hour road trip in your campervan (470kms). Other must-see attractions are Simpsons Gap, Devils Marbles and a day trip out to Kings Canyon.
The desert climate of Central Australia makes travelling comfortable year-round in Alice Springs, especially from April to September when the Alice only receives 1 day of rain per month.
You can expect average temperatures in Alice Springs to be between 20° to 29° from April to September with lows of 4° to 12°.
The best time to travel to tropical Far North Queensland is during the dry season from May to October. Popular for families escaping the cold winter months down south, Cairns' average temperatures range between highs of 25° to 30° and lows of 17° to 20° in the evenings.

With a picturesque city and stunning countryside, the spring turns the vineyards a vibrant green which makes a drive through the Adelaide’s wine regions a must. With over 700 wineries across South Australia, you are bound to find a nice drop. Spending the day touring the wine regions of the Adelaide Hills, Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale is easy to do, with these wine regions located within an hour of Adelaide. When you don’t have to worry about the weight of your luggage, your campervan or motorhome will have plenty of room to courier a box of wine home.
From Glenelg beach to Hahndorf, or heading out east to the Blue Lake or Naracoorte Caves National Park, there is a lot to see and do in South Australia.
The most popular months for a campervan holiday in Tasmania are between December to February. During this time you can expect average temperatures between highs of 21° to 22° and lows of 11° to 13°.
Hit the road and visit the Port Arthur Historic Site, Freycinet National Park and Wineglass Bay, Cataract Gorge Reserve or Cradle Mountain - all are an easy drive from Hobart.

Travelling in late summer and autumn is when Victoria is at its best. In February and March, temperatures are between highs of 24° to 27°, (with an average high temperature of 21° in April) and lows of 12° to 16° in the evenings.
The Formula 1 Grand Prix arrives in Melbourne in March and with the Moomba Festival and the Melbourne Food and Wine Festival, it is a great city to be in. Tour the MCG or stay for an AFL game, visit the Queen Victoria Market or the National Gallery of Victoria.
Popular destinations for visitors to Victoria are the Great Ocean Road to see Bells Beach and the Twelve Apostles, Philip Island and the Penguin Parade, the Grampians National Park, Wilsons Promontory National Park, the Mornington Peninsula and Yarra Valley wineries, the Puffing Billy Railway and the Dandenong.
A great time to visit Perth and tour around Western Australia is between April to June. Average temperatures are much more pleasant after a hot summer and range between highs of 19° to 26° and lows of 11° to 15° throughout April, May and June.
Once you have seen the sights of Perth and visited Kings Park and the Botanic Garden, the Swan River, Fremantle Prison, Scarborough or Cottesloe Beach - choose between road trips to Margaret River, Busselton, Rottnest Island, Monkey Mia, Wave Rock or the Pinnacles Desert.
Australia’s capital city, Canberra, is well known for its museums, galleries and Australian historical sights. Located just over 3 hours from Sydney and a little under 7 hours from Melbourne, Canberra is worth the visit.
A popular time to visit Canberra is during March while the Comedy Festival and the Canberra Balloon Spectacular are on show, or September to October during Floriade and NightFest. Average temperatures will range between highs of 25° in March and during September to October highs of 16° to 20°.
Floriade is held annually in Canberra on the shores of Lake Burley Griffen and displays over one million beautiful flowers in full bloom along with art exhibitions, live music, food stalls and entertainment.
When the sun goes down, NightFest lights up the night and Floriade transforms into an illuminated wonderland with horticultural illuminations and entertainment.
