Travel apps are on hand 24/7 to help you plan your holiday and manage it once you're on the road. Many let you review, compare and book different parts of your trip straight away.

Do campervan companies have their own travel app?

If you're travelling with Apollo, Britz, Maui, Maui Elite or Mighty, you can use the THL Roadtrip App. It's free to download from Google Play or the Apple App Store.

Use the THL Roadtrip App before you travel and while you're on the road. It has tips on planning and preparation, what to expect at pick-up, a full show-through video of the campervan you've booked, and on-the-road Camper Help ‘how to’ videos.

The app also shows your current GPS location and what's nearest to you: campsites and holiday parks (free and paid), petrol stations, free Wi-Fi, real-time road alerts, supermarkets, dump stations, public toilets, LPG filling stations, laundromats and pretty much everything else you need on the road in Australia.

Other helpful travel apps

Google Maps

Google Maps gives you driving directions, and it's also a good way to find nearby restaurants, supermarkets, petrol stations and sights. With a good number of reviews from both locals and tourists, you're more likely to find local gems.

Fuel Watch

Fuel price apps help you find cheaper fuel near you. Track down the cheapest petrol with Petrol Spy Australia, which includes journey planning, or Fuel Map Australia.

Weather

Weather apps keep you up to date with real-time conditions and warnings, including temperature, rain, snow and wind.

Holiday parks

Holiday park apps let you search, compare and book holiday parks for your campervan across Australia.

Parking

Parking apps help you find the closest parking spot to your destination and show whether parking bays are available. They also let you pay securely, without cash or contact.

Digital wallet

With a digital wallet on your phone, you can carry less cash. That saves on currency exchange and reduces what you could lose if your wallet goes missing.

Scanner Pro

Scanner Pro uses your phone to scan paperwork into electronic files, so you have electronic copies of your important travel documents. It's also a handy way to collect and store receipts for your own records.

Currency converter

No need to pack a calculator: a currency converter app makes converting and comparing prices simple.

If you're looking for hidden gems or off-the-beaten-track surprises, it may not be the best resource, as it only captures very popular places and attractions.

When you're travelling internationally, Google Translate can come in handy when you need help with a language.
