New Zealand boasts a rich golfing legacy with professional players such as Sir Bob Charles and US Open winner Michael Campbell, as well as recent young champion Lydia Koh.

The country's golfing heritage reflects the quality of courses available there. If you are visiting Auckland, you'll find a number of excellent greens scattered about.

If you find yourself in the City of Sails and fancy a game, you won't be disappointed. For visitors there's no better way to get yourself and your clubs to these top courses than with a rental car from Auckland Airport and DriveNow has all the tees covered there (ok you might need to forgive us for that one).

Gulf Harbour Country Club

Arguably one of New Zealand's most prestigious courses, Gulf Harbour Country Club features outstanding grounds overlooking beautiful sea views.

Laid out across the Whangaparoa Peninsula with panoramic views beyond the Waitemata Harbour, Gulf Harbour is only 40 minutes outside of central Auckland, easily accessible with a car hire.

Remuera Golf Club

Nestled in the heart of suburban Auckland and surrounded by natural woodland, Remuera Golf Club is a golfing oasis 15 minutes outside of the central city, and easy to get to on your car rental.

Despite its tranquil parklands setting, Remuera is regarded as a challenging mix of variety and strategy. To play it successfully you'll need to think your way around the 18 holes - this is an ideal course for more experienced golfers.

If you're not up to playing a full 18-hole game, why not try Remuera's driving range? The newly opened section has two grassed teeing areas, as well as a recently constructed 15 bay covered area.

Formosa Golf Club

The Formosa Golf Resort is only 40 minutes out of Auckland city and caters to golfers of every ability. Formosa is listed as one of the world's finest golf clubs and with its panoramic views of Waiheke Island and Rangitoto, it's not hard to see why.

Designed by Kiwi golfing legend Sir Bob Charles, the course features 18 holes of spectacular golf. At over 6,600 metres, it's also one of New Zealand's longest courses.

When your game is finished, head to the resort's excellent restaurant for a meal and a well-deserved drink overlooking the green - the perfect way to end a game of golf.
