Perth to Broome Road Trip: Days 1–3 — Geraldton to Kalbarri

This time we sent Nathan on a huge trip across Western Australia. To help with the big distances (and double the fun), Nathan invited travel companion Josiah Laloh @joslaloh along for the ride.

What’s really exciting about this trip is that the pair are travelling in one of Britz’ brand-new Warrior 4WD rooftop double campers — and WA is the perfect place to put it to work, with endless opportunities to test its off-road capabilities and its seriously impressive camping set-up.

So let’s see where they went, and what they made of this state-of-the-art vehicle.

🚚 Day 1: Perth → Geraldton

📍 ~414 km ⏱️ ~4 hrs 30 mins

• Pick up your 4WD Warrior campervan at 2 Redcliffe Road, Redcliffe.
• Stock up on supplies and snacks before hitting the open road.
• Set off north along the scenic Indian Ocean Drive.

• Optional stops at small coastal towns like Lancelin or Dongara–Port Denison.
• Perfect photo stops along the drive, especially if the wildflowers are blooming 🌸 (peak season July–October).

• HMAS Sydney II Memorial — a beautiful hilltop tribute with sweeping views.
• Museum of Geraldton — shipwreck history, Yamaji culture and maritime exhibits.
• St Francis Xavier Cathedral — iconic domed cathedral by architect Monsignor Hawes.
• Geraldton Foreshore — walk the promenade, grab a coffee, or fish and chips by the water.

• Belair Gardens Caravan Park — close to the foreshore, powered campervan sites, clean amenities, Wi-Fi and laundry.

• Skeetas Restaurant — modern Aussie dining overlooking the marina.
• The Jaffle Shack — casual bites, great for a relaxed first-night meal.
• The Provincial — wine, tapas and a laid-back vibe.

🚚 Day 2: Geraldton → Kalbarri

📍 ~155 km ⏱️ ~2 hrs

• Depart Geraldton mid-morning for a leisurely drive to Kalbarri.
• Detour via Pink Lake (Hutt Lagoon) near Port Gregory 🌸 (best seen late morning to early afternoon).

• Check into your holiday park.
• Explore Kalbarri town or relax along the Murchison River foreshore.
• Chinaman’s Beach and Meanarra Hill Lookout offer great afternoon views.
• Visit the Kalbarri Visitor Centre for trail info and park maps.

• Kalbarri Anchorage Holiday Village — on the river and walkable to town; centrally located with excellent campervan facilities, shaded powered sites and close to the supermarket.
• Kalbarri Tudor Holiday Park — great campervan facilities and shady sites.

• Finlay’s Kalbarri — quirky seafood eatery with outdoor dining.
• Kalbarri Pub — classic country pub meals and atmosphere.

🚚 Day 3: Kalbarri National Park

🏔 Day in the park

Start the day early at Kalbarri National Park. Famous for its dramatic gorges and rugged terrain, it’s an absolute must-see in the region.

• Walk the Kalbarri Skywalk — a spectacular cantilevered platform jutting out over the Murchison Gorge.
• Take the short hike to Nature’s Window — the iconic natural rock arch framing the landscape below.
• Up for more? Tackle the Z Bend Lookout or Z Bend River Trail for a moderate challenge.

• Pack a picnic for one of the shaded picnic areas in the park — there are no cafes inside.

• Head back into Kalbarri town for a relaxed afternoon.
• Visit Rainbow Jungle — a parrot breeding centre with tropical gardens and a maze.
• Chill at Blue Holes, or snorkel if the weather permits.
