Perth to Broome Road Trip — Days 4–6: Kalbarri to Coral Bay

Part 2 of the odyssey up the WA coast with @nathsway, still rolling in the new Britz 4WD Warrior with its unique double rooftop tent and dual cabin.

🚚 Day 4: Kalbarri → Denham

📍 ~395 km ⏱️ ~4 hrs 30 mins

Morning — depart Kalbarri
  • Enjoy breakfast in town and stock up on supplies before a longer drive today.
  • Head north along the North West Coastal Highway.
  • Option to visit the Kalbarri Skywalk early if you didn’t the day before.

🚚 Day 5: Denham & Surrounds

🚗 No driving 📍 Local exploration

No driving today — a relaxed day exploring in and around Denham and Shark Bay.

Morning — Monkey Mia dolphins 🐮
  • Head to Monkey Mia early to see the famous wild dolphin interactions.
  • Rangers offer informative talks about the dolphins and the Shark Bay ecosystem.
  • Let some air out of your tyres and head into Francois Peron National Park. If you’re not in a 4WD camper, you’ll need to take a guided tour.
🛑 Optional extras: a Monkey Mia scenic cruise or kayak tour is great for spotting dugongs, turtles and rays — try Perfect Nature Cruises for a sailing experience. Otherwise, just relax with a swim and soak up the Shark Bay sunshine.
Afternoon — discover Shark Bay 🌿
  • Visit the Shark Bay World Heritage Discovery Centre — excellent exhibits on local history, wildlife and UNESCO status.
  • Check out Little Lagoon — great for a paddle and a picnic.
  • Drive to Eagle Bluff Lookout — dramatic cliffs with views over the bay and marine life in the shallows.

🚚 Day 6: Denham → Coral Bay

Morning — depart Denham
  • Early start for a full day of travel heading north toward Coral Bay.
  • Refuel in Denham before departure — services are limited en route.
  • Drive through outback landscapes with changing colours and the occasional wildlife sighting.
Stopover — Carnarvon
  • A great place to stretch your legs and grab supplies or lunch.
  • Fascine waterfront — ideal for a quick break with a view.
  • One Mile Jetty Interpretive Centre — learn about the town’s maritime and space-tracking history, then dig into Carnarvon’s little-known space story at the Space and Technology Museum.
  • Carnarvon Fruit Loop Drive Trail — check out seasonal produce like bananas and mangoes if time permits.
Afternoon — arrive in Coral Bay
  • Check into your holiday park or campground and enjoy a relaxed evening by the beach.
  • Take a sunset stroll along Bill’s Bay — one of WA’s most beautiful marine views.
  • Snorkel straight off the beach if time permits — Coral Bay’s Ningaloo Reef is accessible from the shore.
