How Much Does a 3-Week Western Australia Road Trip Cost? (Real Budget Breakdown)

The answer to many questions about how much to budget for a 3 week WA costal road-trip..... here is the break-down on what @nathsway trip cost for August '25.   

These are very personal costs,  but it gives you a ball park on how much to budget for. 

If you are reading this blog years after these costs where incurred, use the categories below to help you do your calculations, also look at the links for the itinerary listed.   

Nathan @nathsway and Josiah @josalah travelled in August 2025 - this is peak time and one of the premier months to travel, bear in mind other times of year can be cheaper. 

Flights - personal depending on your location. 

Vehicle rental - In Aug '25 - 21 day rental fees ranged from approximately - a basic '2 berth campervan' - AU$128 per day =  AU$2700

top of the range '6 berth Motorhome or a 2/4 berth 4WD camper' - AU$333 per day = AU$7000.

Above @nathsway and @josiah had a Warrior 4 berth (double roof top tent) 4WD.  which was $6500 for the 20 days.

Fuel for 3000km - AU$1200

Food - AU$1000 per person (this is a combination of groceries and eating out and drinking locally) 

Campgrounds - between AU$50 and AU$60 a night - allow $1200 (pre book especially in the Coral Coast area)

Inclusions - cruises and entries allow AU$600 - $1000 p.p. if you want to do a scenic flight allow AU$600 p.p.  Horizontal Falls day trip - AU$1300 p.p. 

A lot of what you will do cost nothing to very little,  it's a road trip about natural beauty, walks, National Parks, wildflowers and wildlife. 

The final word on budget based on 2025 costs for 2 people- approx AU$6000 plus your choice of vehicle and flights.
