Free things to do in Auckland

Auckland Art Gallery

Most cities around the world will offer their art gallery as a free activity for culture-loving visitors. Auckland is no exception! Here you'll be able to see a platter of New Zealand artwork to get a real idea of the culture of the country as expressed through paint and sculpture. Tours are also free (so you know what you're looking at), and run three times a day.

Be a beach bum

There's nothing quite like the sand and surf to make you feel free, and when the experience comes free too, it can't be topped. The west coast beaches are just a drive away and are world renowned for their beauty and black and golden sands. Top spots are Piha and Muriwai for their surfing and swimming opportunities.

There's also an array of events on in at around the city at all times. Being New Zealand's biggest city, you'll never be short of something to do here.
