Kiwis have a global reputation for being some of the friendliest and most accommodating people on Earth.
And that’s not just an opinion shared by the country’s residents – a recent international survey of approximately 47,000 travel enthusiasts ranked three of New Zealand’s largest urban centres in its list of the friendliest cities around the world.
Auckland, Christchurch and Queenstown claimed spots on the top 20 list compiled in Conde Nast Traveller’s Readers’ Choice Survey, and all are destinations that can be enjoyed with an affordable car rental.
Queenstown was the highest ranked New Zealand city, a city renowned for its astounding natural beauty and world class skiing resorts, Queenstown came in fourth behind only Florianopolis in Brazil, Hobart in Tasmania, and Thimpu, Bhutan.
Next on the list was 12th-placed Christchurch, which readers have praised for keeping its spirit intact despite a series of earthquakes in recent years. “The resilience of the people of Christchurch is an inspiration,” remarked one reader. So next time you’re visiting the Garden City with a Christchurch car hire, why not stop by a bar to get acquainted with the friendly locals?
Aucklanders may divide opinion among the rest of the country, but Conde Nast readers had no problem with residents of the city, ranking it 16th on the list.
Don’t believe it? Readers claimed that the “people are happy and helpful to visitors”, and described the city as “clean and friendly”.
Auckland is a pretty large city so you may want to book an Auckland car hire to explore the ‘City of Sails’ – make sure you visit must-see attractions such as Auckland Museum and Kelly Tarlton’s Sea Life Aquarium.
