It's suddenly an "appy" world with every app under the sun serving a purpose, whether it be a utility for business, a game to kill some time or a great travel app to assist you in your travels in an Australian campervan rental or car hire. The DriveNow app, available now in the iTunes store and Android Market, is a classic example of an easy to use application that is super convenient for people on the go. A couple of swift clicks and you're all sorted, otherwise you can keep tabs on your current booking.

So, what else is out there for roadtrippers once you've picked up that campervan rental or car hire from Melbourne, Sydney or Brisbane? There are hundreds, but I've narrowed down the field to get you started with 5 useful apps:

FIND A PARK ($1.99 iTunes) If you're hitting the road in a campervan rental, it's probably a clever idea to have hundreds of caravan parks and camp grounds in the palm of your hand so you know where you're heading. Find A Park is an award-winning app with more than 800 caravan parks and camping grounds loaded up and has a cool feature that uses geotagging technology to reveal the closest parks to you within a 100km range.

GOOGLE PLACES (free iTunes) There's nothing quite like downloading a cool app that comes with the added bonus of being free. A bit similar to Find A Park in that it uses geo-tagging technology you can track down the nearest cafes, bars, restaurants, ATMs, pizza shops, post office and nearby attractions in a flash. There are also little reviews provided by other users to help with your decision-making process. A simple app that produces the goods.

IPOSTCARDS (free iTunes) Another freebie that is revolutionising the way we send postcards while travelling on the road in our Australia campervan hire vehicles. This app provides a variety of templates to transform your happy holiday snaps into postcards on your smart phone and then send to anywhere in the world for just a couple of dollars! Simply load up some credit, follow the prompts, type in your postcard message, hit send and the recipient will be receiving a physical copy of your postcard within days.

FUEL FINDA (0.99c iTunes) This crackerjack app allows you to track down the nearest petrol station if you've just realised that big campervan you picked up in Melbourne is about to conk out of petrol as your wind your way out into the western districts. Also boasts service centres, tyre retailers, car wash locations and more.

TRIPADVISOR (free iTunes) With more than 50 million reviews by fellow travellers you can discover some genuine lowdowns on the best parks, places to eat, and best attractions. There are millions of happy snaps to peruse and the Near Me Now feature is a ripper for finding nearby attractions and eateries.
