Dreamworld Rides
Dreamworld doesn’t disappoint in the adrenalin department. It features some of the biggest, fastest and scariest rides in Australia – known collectively as the Big 6 Thrill Rides. The newest ride on offer is Mick Doohan’s Motocoaster, a motorcycle thrill ride that puts you behind the handlebars of replica 500cc racing bikes. Created by five times world champion, speed demon Mick Doohan, this is the only ride of its kind in the world and the only one to recreate the thrill of high-speed motorcycle racing.
The other high-adrenaline rides at Dreamworld are the Tower of Terror (described as like “being shot out of a cannon); the Cyclone Rollercoaster (heart-thumping twists and 360 degree loops); The Claw (a powerful pendulum, swinging up to 75 km/h); Giant Drop (the tallest freefalling ride in the world, with a 39-storey drop); and Wipeout (described as the ‘mother of all tidal waves’).
Another new experience popular with surfers and skateboarders is FlowRider, which uses the latest in technology to create the perfect stationary wave. Riding with just 15 other participants, bodyboarders and surfers can experience the rush of real surfing, dropping in on their own unbroken waves, sliding down and riding back up the padded surface. As well as being great fun, FlowRider is also a great teaching tool for surfers –endorsed by world champ Kelly Slater, who says “it’s safe to say 95 per cent of all surfers will want to try it”.
Dreamworld caters to all ages, with more rides for youngsters than any other Gold Coast park. Even thrill rides like the Mick Doohan Motocoaster allows anyone over 110cm to ride in a sidecar!
