Phillip island MotoGP 2013
What a way to say goodbye, under clear blue skies Casey Stoner signed off at Phillip island on Sunday winning his 6th successive Australian MotoGP, 9 seconds clear of Spain's Jorge Lorenzoof with British rider Cal Crutchlow in third position. We'll be back in 2013 with details on the best Camper and Car rental deals for October 2013, we hope to see you back again.
Phillip Island's MotoGP is always a special event with spectacular island and ocean views providing the perfect backdrop to one of the fastest and most fluid race tracks on the MotoGP circit.
2012 will be extra poignant with Casey Stoner farewelling his Australian fans with his final Phillip Island appearance (on 2 wheels at least). Since 2007 Phillip Island has proved to be a successful hunting ground for Stoner with 5 consecutive wins and there's no doubt he'd love to sign off in front of his home crowd with a final win.
Not surprisingly this year's event is expected to be a total sell out with record breaking crowds in attendance and for those looking to stay down on the island or close-by, accommodation will be harder to come by. Booking early is the best mantra as hotels, motels, B&Bs and even the camping sites are quickly snapped up.
Over the past few years an increasing number of racegoers have turned to campervans as alternative accommodation taking the opportunity to explore beyond Phillip Island down into Gippsland and the surrounding area.
Phillip Island is host to more than its fair share of Caravan Parks (see below) with powered sites allowing you to enjoy the race days and share the camping experience from the comfort of a modern well equipped campervan.
If you're new to the campervan world you'll be surprised with how well equipped today's vehicles are. Double beds, fully featured kitchens and bathrooms and room to stretch out and relax reliving the day's race on the flat screen TV or catching a movie on the built-in DVD player. With 6 berth motorhomes at less than $40 per person per day the Campervan Rental option makes for a great deal too.
