Tips for driving and parking around Wellington

A campervan is easier to drive than you might think
Are you keen to explore Wellington by campervan but nervous about getting behind the wheel because of the size? Don’t panic, modern campervans are actually a lot easier to drive than you would expect. It won’t take you long to adapt to the size, and with power-steering, you’ll barely feel a difference between driving a camper and your typical vehicle at home.
One-way rentals
If you’re planning on exploring more of the North Island during your trip to Wellington, a relocation camper is a great way to travel for as little as $5 a day and often with fuel included. The key to snaffling up one of these deals is being able to be flexible with travel dates as relocation vehicles can only be booked one month out . Check out relocation deals (updated daily at 9am) from Wellington to Auckland and explore the North’s two largest cities, discover volcanos and caves along the route as well as soaking in the culture of New Zealand’s Maori people.

Wellington has a relatively cool climate all year around, it rarely reaches above 25 degrees during summer months. Due to its seaside location on the Cooks Strait it is a windy city, as it is rather exposed which funnels the wind from the ocean right through Wellington. Despite it having a cooler climate, in the winter months lows rarely exceed 4 degrees. Be prepared and bring warm clothing for when you are exploring this beautiful place, and your campervan will make sure you stay warm and dry.
