One of Victoria’s most popular and most written about Car journeys is the Great Ocean Road. Officially starting at Torquay and finishing at Allansford the road is just over 240 kilometres long and includes some of Victoria’s premiere attractions.
For our Trip we picked up a hire car in Melbourne through DriveNow (that’s the Ubiquitous plug out of the way) and headed south down the freeway to Geelong about 60 mins away. VISITORS to Victoria’s capital looking for a weekend day-trip may not know the Yarra Valley is a prime location and only an hour from the CBD in your car rental. Barwon Heads was next on the agenda for the Everitt clan and it was an easy 90-minute road trip from Melbourne or if you are coming along the Great Ocean Road in an Adelaide campervan rental then its only a 20-minute deviation from Geelong.

UNDER normal circumstances if someone were to ask me along on a road trip from Melbourne to Nagambie, a less than two-hour drive, my first question would be, ‘Why?’.
Understandable enough, especially when you consider there really isn’t a lot on offer aside from being a humble little country town of under 2000 people. Omeo is one of those places in Victoria you wouldn’t automatically slot into your itinerary, but it’s a great little destination in the east of the state and worthwhile road trip experience from Melbourne.
Omeo is tucked away at the base of the Snowy Mountains, just a 90-minute drive north of Bairnsdale or a five-hour drive along the Princes Freeway, Princes Highway and Great Alpine Rd after you grab a Melbourne car rental in the CBD.
