Best markets in Melbourne (Part II)

SOME of Melbourne's most famous and unique markets attract visitors from across Australia - and then there are some which are still well-kept secrets by locals. Food stalls, live entertainment, arts and craft, vintage fashion, trash and treasure – you name it, Melbourne’s market scene has it all.

In our second installment of recommendations for markets in Melbourne, take a break from the same old shopping centres and discover some of the city’s exciting weekend markets.

Camberwell Sunday Market Shop for a good cause on a Sunday morning. Since opening in 1976, the Camberwell Sunday Market (pictured) has raised close to $9 million for several charities operating across the City of Boroondara. With around 370 outdoor stalls offering hand-crafts and second hand goods, the Camberwell Sunday Market is one of the most fascinating weekend markets in Melbourne.

St Kilda Esplanade Market If the iconic backdrop of St Kilda Beach isn’t enough to reel you into the St Kilda Esplanade Market on a Sunday, then surely the vibrant hand-made jewellery, accessories, artwork and wood products will do it. With more than 120 unique stalls, the market is the ideal destination before your morning coffee fix.

Caribbean Gardens and Market, Scoresby Located on the shores of the beautiful Lake Carribbean, this market is one of Victoria’s largest with more than 1,500 stalls. Buy clothing, fresh produce, plants, lollies, art and crafts, tools, toys, gifts, to name a few goods on sale. Its exciting rides and playground for kids makes it perfect for families. You can also stroll around the beautiful lake and gardens. Open Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays.

Rose St Artists’ Market, Fitzroy The place to come for unique handmade goods. Suss out Melbourne’s best art and design talent each weekend at the Rose St Market. With everything from art, photography, collectables, emerging fashion designers, jewellery and accessories, you’ll lay eyes on handmade gems that you’ll never find anywhere else.

Coburg Farmers Market

Sometimes you really just need to dig out a good market from all of Melbourne's pockets - this one at Coburg North Primary School on every second and fourth Saturday of the month which offers some of the best fresh produce on the planet. Accredited with the Victoria Farmers Market Association, some of the stallholders including Plains Paddock Lamb, Flinders Sourdough, Boisdale Best Vegies, Hazeldean Forest Farm, Inverloch Free Range Eggs, Sunny Creek Berries, Goldfields Farmhouse Cheese, and Gippsland Pasture Fed Meats.
