Barwon Heads was next on the agenda for the Everitt clan and it was an easy 90-minute road trip from Melbourne or if you are coming along the Great Ocean Road in an Adelaide campervan rental then its only a 20-minute deviation from Geelong.

Barwon Heads is the most beautiful beachside village you are likely to see, especially in Victoria. There's a tonne of beach for everyone to enjoy, including ocean, river and estuary - you name it, they have it. The Barwon Heads Caravan Park was built on multi-million dollar land which runs right along the river/estuary. There are a stack of powered sites right on the water's edge plus they have spacious villas up on the hill with outrageously great views from their deck ... and the couch.

The park is massive with its own footy field in the middle, so no whinging kids here! Barwon Heads thrives on the tourism trade, with great little knick-knack shops and, of course, some awesome restaurants and cafes. It really is a place to go for a real Aussie holiday. You can relax the entire time, or if you simply love the beach and water then there is absolutely everything on offer, especially with boat ramps within easy access so it's a real stress-free holiday.

The town of Barwon Heads itself has all the main amenities so there is no need to leave – not that you will ever want to. Taking in the early morning or dusk stroll along the boardwalk and beach is a must. We did it every single day. The kids loved the rock pools and looking for sea anemones, spending hours doing it much to mum's happiness. The hospitality in town is of the highest order and something I have ever encounted. You are treated like a local from the moment you arrive. Everyone is friendly and nothing is ever too much to ask. So what are you waiting for? Get in your campervan or car rental and head on down to Barwon Heads!
