- Excess insurance reduction options are highly recommended for peace of mind in the event of an accident. These start from $20 per day.
- A Bond is required on any vehicle hired at pick up. The Bond reflects (and is reduced by) the insurance excess option taken. If no excess option is taken a bond of up to $2700 ($4400 for the 4WD option) is required. Bonds are deposited directly with the vehicle supplier.

All Backpacker vehicles come well equipped with the essentials. There are some variations depending upon the features of the rental vehicle. In essence you can expect the following:
- Kitchen: Plates & Bowls, Cups & glasses, Cutlery, Bottle/Can opener, cooking utensils,
pans & Frying pan, Kettle and tea towels
- Living: Dustpan & brush, Bucket & plastic containers, clothes
line and pegs, matches, vehicle guides and road maps.
- Bedding: Pillows, sheets, Sleeping bags or Doona (duvets), bathroom towels. You are welcome to bring your own or use those provided.
There are optional extras available from Backpacker Rentals including the
following, generally charged on a per rental basis these include:
- Outdoor Table ($22)
- Outdoor Chair ($12)
- Awnings ($5 per day with a cap)
- Fist Aid Kit ($30)
- baby/Booster Seats ($25)
- Outback Safety Kit ($95)
- Satellite Phone ($17 per day + call costs)
- 22 days prior to pick up - no fee
- 7-21 days prior to pick up 20%
